Monthly, as a part of my religious worship, I engage in a 24-hour fast. No food, no water for the 24 hours. This has many religious benefits and is the main reason I do this, but it has non-religious benefits as well.
It helps my answer the question “how resilient am I in the face of adversity?” Can I maintain civil discourse? Can I really master the needs of my body and put my rational mind fully in charge? What level of physical work am I able to maintain, or do I engage in energy-saving measures to ensure I last the entire time?
This is the first fast under this new plan, and I’m thinking when I’m done here, I’m going to get on the bike and ride for a while just to see what is possible, and how much mastery I can have over myself until this evening when I break the fast.
