Clothing as a representation of self and value

Most days at work, I wear shorts and a t-shirt. A relatively typical “I write code” or “I work for a relaxed company” dress code.

I also work from home and have geographic independence from an office. When I go to an office, I tend to dress a little better, maybe slacks and a polo.

When I’m not working, I’m currently often in overalls.

I live on a farm. It’s been more than 100 ° F for the last 3 weeks. Turns out overalls are hot and cause sweating. So that’s been fun.

But I’m learning I’m not really an “overalls guy.” They’re extremely handy, ultimately useful. But they communicate something or are representative of something I am not.

And I’m learning more and more that I am closer to a shorts and t-shirt and barefoot guy. With occasional forays into nice suits.
