You have an opinion, does it matter?

You’re the first to see a YouTube video, and you want the world to know it. So you post “first!” before anyone else can. Ten minutes later, you reload the page, and five other people wasted their digital breath similarly and you proceed to argue with them about who deserves “first” status while the message of the video is lost.

Your friend writes a Facebook post asking for advice. You have it. So you post it. Except 20 other people already said the same thing in different words. But you didn’t notice because you didn’t read.

Or maybe you did. And then you proceeded to “like,” “love,” and “haha” at the comments of people who said the same thing you did, setting of a storm of notifications for all the people who have the same experience or opinion you do.

Maybe you could have done a service to the world in both cases and kept your need for instant gratification and attention under control.

Try it next time.
