Are you making yourself feel better or making yourself better?
This has application across life. It takes some meta-critical ability. And you may need to be ultra-honest with yourself.
Are the things you’re doing on a daily basis making you feel better about yourself or are they making you a better person?
Things to consider
- Social media interactions
- Social media consumption
- News consumption
- Downtime habits
If I were to take a look at one of my dailies, what do I find?
I play at least one and usually two games of StarCraft every day. It’s a nice relaxing time, destroying the other guy is fun, and it is a bit of a relaxant for me. I usually also have music or something going on YouTube on my second monitor, so it’s a nice way to passively download some things into my brain.
But the reality is it only makes me feel good. It doesn’t make me better. Usually after a game or two I start getting restless and want to do something else.
That didn’t used to be the case. I could play for 4-8 hours straight without stopping. I had to train myself out of it.
What can you train yourself out of in order to make yourself better?
