You can’t prove the negative

My thoughts recently have turned to building knowledge of spiritual things. Of reading and truly understanding the scriptures.

As a part of this I’ve read some commentaries on the scriptures.

I’ve been impressed by the comments of one, and how they drastically contrast (or explain) with how some people approach the scriptures.

It is impossible to prove a negative. Thus we cannot start a study of the scriptures without faith. We can’t start assuming they are false and expect them to prove us wrong. Nor can we start with the assumption they are false and expect them to prove that true.

Starting with the faith and belief that they are written and inspired by God for your benefit will, over time, and with effort, give you greater insights, and if you desire and have ears to hear, prove them in your heart.

Starting from the negative position will blind you to the positive proofs and eliminate any faith you may have had.
